A bit meh
First impressions when I walked in were not great if I'm honest. I thought the entrance was a bit weird/ awkward with the position of the glass door.
I wasn't wowed by the reception/ lounge area.it took about 20 mins to check in, seem to take around 5 minutes per person which is just too long. I checked in online which seemed to take no quicker than the people beside me that hadn't.
The receptionist was asking everyone if the wanted to eat dinner in the restaurant and if so to book as they get a commission. I didn't think they should have admitted that for a more upmarket hotel.
Reception staff were friendly though.
The rooms were nice and more akin to a better hotel - perhaps better than the reception/ lounge area were preparing me for. My room was facing Matthew street, yards from the Cavern club.
I went out for a couple of hours and as I passed reception I could hear an angry resident saying he couldn't stay in the room with the noise from outside. Oh dear I thought, I'm probably going to be affected too. I went into the room and could hear the noise but didn't let it bother me. I turned the TV on to drown out the noise, then some music on my phone to sleep. I soon managed to fall asleep so bizarrely the noise didn't affect me.
There was an odd rumble every so often and I thought it was drumming from one of the live bands... But then also heard it in the morning. It was as though there was an underground line nearby. Maybe there was.
