This place is spectacular. I was not expecting the rooms to be as modern and comfortable as they are. The grounds and location right on the river are beautiful. I couldn’t pass up a ride on the attended 100+year old elevator when I first arrived even though I had only one floor to ascend. I really hope I can return for a longer stay.

Room selection
Would recommend reserving a room on the view side which is stunning. The garden view is next to noisy highway.

These comments are elaborating on the questions asked above. The hotel grounds are amazing and so scenic. And very well kept up, considering the age. We had a great time walking around the grounds in the morning. Since a question asks this, the location is a bit isolated from other services, but that was not an issue for us.
Re: staff. We had to wait for staff a couple of times - for the front desk at check-in, and we waited quite a while for staff to appear at the restaurant, both in the evening and in the morning. On the other hand, a staff person making up the rooms upstairs went out of his way to share more about the history of the place with us, which was much appreciated.

Our friends recommended this hotel and the restaurant from their trips before
Wife grandpa and I spent a night at Columbia Gorge Hotel. Well maintained 100 years hotel overlooking the gorge. We enjoyed the fall color also. The front desk lady Sarah were super friendly and helpful. She held the elevator 88 years old grandpa during the busy check out time for all guests. Thomas at the restaurant was funny and knowledgeable about the menu and the hotel history. We enjoyed our stay there and we recommend.

Charming Historic Hotel
Beautiful property right on the Columbia River. Views everywhere. Historic Hotel that was a pleasure to stay in. Elevator carried on the history and required an elevator operator to run it...very charming.

Definitely one of my top 20 hotels ever. Location, comfort, staff, setting, views, bar and bar menu - all get five stars. In or near Hood River, one would be unintelligent to think of staying anywhere else.

Fabulous dog-friendly hotel
We went to Columbia Gorge Hotel and Spa for my girlfriends birthday weekend. It's a super cool old hotel with a spa attached that she was able to get a massage at, last minute notice. Very cool grounds and gardens to walk around on, and close to the bustling tourist town of Hood River. Will definitely be staying here again - and they're dog friendly!

Beautiful hotel with lots of character. Very clean. The grounds were amazing- gardens, waterfall, sitting areas- all well taken care of, even in October. Gorgeous view of the river. We appreciated the uniqueness of the hotel, which included the historic elevator, glass doorknobs, louvered doors at our room entrance. The only difficulty we experienced was when we tried to get our ice bucket filled. This had to be done at the check-in area, and with a staff member. We had to look everywhere for an employee and finally found someone in the restaurant to help out. A minor quirk to a pleasant stay.

Lovely old hotel
We enjoyed the ambience of this hotel...very classy. It was a bit of a nuisance to need an attendant for the elevator, though. In-room coffee would have been nice. Appreciated the fridge. It seemed that voices from the next room came through the bathroom register, which was annoying. Lovely old hotel and beautiful grounds.

Grand hotel on the Gorge
Grand old resort hotel in a beautiful setting. Like stepping back in time. Staff does a good job of maintaining its high standards.
