Best location in Marietta for walking tours
Superior location at the heart of Marietta (Riverboat lane). Has elevator for the elder guests. Rich in history. Great staff

What a great place to wake up!
The Layfette is a historic hotel so it comes with the quirkiness of age. The floors squeak and the rooms are more compact but that is just part of the experience of staying in a hotel from another era. Our room had a newly redone bath and shower in a period black and white tile that fit the theme. The best surprise of the two-day visit was the breakfast. We are all accustomed to the typical hotel breakfast with plastic eggs, etc but the Layfette must have a Michelin Chef in that kitchen. They provide a voucher for a Traditional Breakfast or you can apply that toward anything on the menu, just pay the difference. I had the General's Pancakes and then the Stuffed French Toast. WOW! The extra flavors in both of these were just perfect. Everything was so good! Every other hotel breakfast will be nothing but a disappointment. A great start to the morning.

Below expectations
Biggest disappointment was the price. We really thought we were going to have a luxury, memorable stay. Just average. Second biggest disappointment was the Thanksgiving buffet. I found a couple items I could eat but, for the price, I expected something special. Gun Room now looks like a diner. Not fancy at all. No breakfast offered on Thanksgiving but no discount on room rate either. Finally, no football games were available in our room or in the bar. Drove 6 hrs to get there and we made the best of it. But wont be returning.

Great (fun)location. Old hotel with full service. Little things, which should be relatively easy to fix e.g. bedside lamp didnt work, TV wouldnt get local channels (as listed on in room guide), wi fi was weak to not available in room, a few small ants on bathroom floor.

Good meeting point for extended family
Old historic hotel with antique furniture and some recent upgrades to bed and bath. If the old charm is your thing, you’ll love it. If you like modern and shiny new, you won’t. There were excellent food and beverage choices. Many weekends have music or comedy shows as an extra ticket. It was great for us since we met family and this was halfway point. Overall, it worked nicely for us.

It’s an older hotel, but it is really really nice and very pretty great location beautiful spot on the river. The price was excellent. Two good restaurants on site with the Starbucks inside the building. definitely should stay if you get a chance.

I liked the history of the hotel. Our room was ok and the bathroom was to small. There was no sound proofing at all. We could hear everything going on outside the hotel all night (loud traffic, music from the bars, and people walking down the street talking.) that was very annoying. We thought we were getting breakfast included, only to find out that its only during the week you get it included. We did try the buffet and it was not great. We did enjoy the bar a couple of nights for a drink. It was an experience but I don't think we'll stay again. The town of Marietta was great and the history amazing. Everyone we met there were super nice

The Lafayette is an historic hotel and the rooms are furnished with period-appropriate furniture. It is right on the water front of the Ohio and Muskingum rivers and there is a nice waterfront walking area. The restaurant food was good and reasonably priced. We’ve stayed here multiple times over the past few years.

Hotel was nice and old, not honeymoon, but great historic overnight. Great service, stingy on towels though. Town is a clean college town, with nice trails along the Ohio. Weird thing though, they let a half naked guy dance at the end of the street by hotel downtown from 8pm to around 11pm blaring music. Seems harmless, but weird if you want to throw a penny in fountain at that time period. There are random homeless people along trail, but they don't beg, this is oddly standard around college towns. No ghosts in hotel, even went in basement with all the nerd stuff, nothing. Very nice historic hotel, so don't get me wrong. A must visit!

This historical building is lovely. Our room was spacious w a sitting area and 2 bathrooms. Very very cool. Overall cleaniness was good. Wallpaper was pealing off the walls. There were stains on the chairs, but linens were crisp and clean. Window AC units and ceiling fans. This was fine for our Oct stay, not sure how it would be in July or August. Lobby was pretty, but there was an odd odor and carpet could use a good cleaning. All in all a good place to stay. Close to everything. Wlka le to bars and restaurants and quaint downtown shops.
