Lots of extra fees. Double resort fees charged.
Our flight was canceled and had to find hotel for 2 extra nights. The room rate shown was fairly reasonable but did not include the "resort fee" of which I was charged twice on the resort fees. Once by Hotels.com and then again at the Royal Lahaina. Parking fees were ridiculous and staff at checkin was rude and not very helpful. So don't go by nightly room rate when booking this property. The person working at the pool towel and rental booth was rude. And snapped at another guest because they touched the sunscreen pump on the counter. The room was ok but had mold on sink and shower. For the amount of money they were charging I expected everything to be clean. The mini fridge was old and no microwave in room. I would not stay here again. Definitely a bad ending to our trip.

A lame night for an awesome wedding day
It was our wedding night and the hotel acknowledged it when we were booking but made no effort to make our wedding night special. A note, a bottle of wine or flowers or something but not a thing. The hotel seems uber focused on making sure their guests were aware of their no smoking policy to the point it felt like big brother was watching at every moment. Over all the experience was less than appealing and will not be recommending the resort to others nor will we stay again

Our stay was great! If you’re a chill person and appreciate a classic Hawaiian atmosphere, then Royal Lahaina is your place. If you have loud kids who want water slides and blow up toys then this is not your spot. My fam of 4 will be back as soon as we can!

Great stay
Great location. The hotel could use more front desk staff during high season. Amenities were okay. Beach chairs and umbrellas should be free or at least cheaper considering the price of the rooms. The no smoking policy anywhere on the grounds is typical nowadays, but BS; you should at least get a view other than the parking lot. The valet staff gets five stars.

Took a long time to obtain hot water. The restaurant had outdated menus, dinner options were not explained very well, and the waiter wasn't always prompt. I wasn't pleased that an additional parking fee is required.

Perfectly fine - would come back
My wife and I had a good stay at Royal Lahaina over the Christmas holidays. We enjoyed the location - walking distance from other resorts and restaurants and shops at the Whalers Village, while still somewhat secluded. We enjoyed the closeness to the beach (a one minute walk from our bungalow) and closeness to the pool. As bicyclists we enjoyed the fact that this was on the West Maui Loop. Staff was friendly, room was clean, bed was firm. The one downside was that the restaurant was slow at times. This was not luxurious, but worked well for our purposes. We'll likely come back.

Disgraceful Management, Unsafe Rooms, and Horrible
I wish I could give zero stars for our stay at this hotel. The front desk manager (not sure of her name) was utterly dishonest and unprofessional. She blatantly lied to us, claiming there were no oceanfront bungalows available, even though I could clearly see them available online. To make matters worse, during our stay, the service was atrocious. No one cleaned our room for days until we went to the front desk to complain. There was this one they just flipped the sheets to hide dirt side and called it a day. The nightmare continued with multiple nights of no hot water. Seriously? A so-called 3-4 star hotel can’t handle providing hot water? Every time I called the front desk from our room to address this, no one picked up. I had to physically walk to the reception, only to be met with useless excuses and no resolution. And the most appalling part? When we checked in, the connecting door to the suite next to us was completely unlocked. Anyone could have walked into our room from the other side. This is a MAJOR security and safety issue. Despite repeatedly raising this with the staff, it took them several days to fix the problem. The lack of concern for guest safety is beyond unacceptable. The front desk manager was rude, grumpy, and disrespectful every time we approached her with a problem. She wouldn’t even look us in the eye and blatantly lied without hesitation. Her attitude was disgraceful, and she has no business being in hospitality. She needs to be fired immediately.
